Amazing Finds

So I'm walking through Home Depot pricing things up for my upcoming building projects and I come across pallets of discontinued windows at insanely low prices! We decided on a detached studio just for me rather than the small addition on the house. These will be perfect. I didn't find everything I need, but it's a good start at an amazing price. Woohoo! Here we go! Now I just have to figure out how to get them home. They definitely won't fit in the back of my Explorer ![]()
Additional Thoughts
Most often buildings are designed to accommodate a certain aesthetic or perhaps a specific purpose. The drawback to that, is that a designer can easily come up with designes that require custom elements, like uncommon window or door sizes that cost two or three times as much as standard sizes.
I purchased 6 windows at Home Depot that day:
- Three 60 in x 48 in sliders at $119 each
- Two 24 in x 36 single hungs at $72 each
- One 36 in x 60 in single hung at $104
I didn't really know what my design for the cottage would be, but I did know that I needed light. Not just for my photography, but also for me. I wanted to be able to look out those windows and feel like I was sitting outside in my garden, soaking up the sun and breathing fresh air. So I set my sights on designing around those 50% Off windows because it's cheaper to fit framing around windows than to buy windows suited to aesthitcs or framing of the structure.
There are many places to find discounts on building supplies. Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, ask about special-order returns at your local custom order outlet or the Pro Desk at your local lumber yard. The more you look the more you'll find and more importantly, the more you'll save.
